The retailer is to rent the premises previously occupied by the Apple product shop CompuB which rebranded as Select.

A prime retail spot in Limerick city centre which has been vacant for more than a year is to be occupied again.

British retail chain The Works, which sells books, arts and crafts, toys and games and a wide range of stationary goods is to rent the premises located beside O’Mahony’s Bookshop on the city’s main thoroughfare.

The Works already has stores across the Republic of Ireland including several in Dublin and outlets in Cork, Killarney, Athlone, Gorey, and Kilkenny.

In total, there are 526 outlets across the UK and Ireland.

The chain is already recruiting for positions with vacancies for store manager, team leaders and sales assistants and it’s understood the new shop will create ten new jobs for the city centre.

It was named as one of the top 25 firms to work for by The Sunday Times in 2020.

Select, previously known as Compu B which sold Apple products was the last tenant of the retail space at 121 O’Connell Street but the business moved to the Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle last year citing a need for greater floor space.
