Sligo Rovers’ Daire Patton scores as Republic of Ireland Schools team beat Wales

Sligo Rovers’ and Summerhill College’s Daire Patton scored as the Republic of Ireland schools team were 3-0 winners over Wales in the SAFIB Centenary Shield Under 18 Boys’ International on Thursday night in Briton Ferry.

It was the final game in the ten-match series which saw the Republic of Ireland win one, draw one and lose two.

Sligo Rovers’ and St Attracta’s Kyle McDonagh started, as did Rovers’ Conor Reynolds who made his debut for the senior team in 2023.

The Irish got the perfect start against the Welsh with an own goal scored by defender Mwenera after 13 minutes.

Summerhill College student Daire Patton netted ten minutes from the interval to give the Irish a two-goal cushion heading into the break.

The third goal arrived on 55 minutes when Hugh Parker scored.

Both Patton and McDonagh have impressed when on duty with the schools team, and alongside Reynolds have been named on the bench for the Sligo Rovers senior team this season.
