An amendment to the Communications Regulation Bill covers security measures relating to ‘high-risk vendors’ whose equipment may be deemed accessible by a third party

The government is moving towards a ban on telecom companies in Ireland using Huawei equipment in their critical infrastructure networks over fears it could be accessed by the Chinese state.

A late amendment to the Communications Regulation Bill 2022 last week covers security measures relating to so-called “high-risk vendors”. It refers to technology companies that are deemed by the state to be “subject to interference by a third country”.
