The fifth race on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the Magners Plate Handicap Chase at 4.10pm. One of the standout horses in that race is the Emmet Mullins-trained So Scottish. The Irish racing trainer will be hopeful of one of his star horses claiming victory here on his Cheltenham Festival debut.
Nephew of legendary trainer Willie Mullins, Emmet, trains the betting favourite in the Magners Plate Handicap Chase here – So Scottish.
The 6-year-old gelding currently sits at odds of around 4/1 with the best horse racing betting sites. So Scottish is in great form, with three wins and two seconds in his last five racing starts. If he can replicate that form here at Cheltenham on Day 3, he will be extremely difficult to stop from winning here as the favourite.
The Irish gelding aims to win his first Cheltenham race, but second for trainer Emmet Mullins who won this race back in 2021 with The Shunter. He is a fantastic horse and is understandably the betting favourite here for the Magners Plate Handicap Chase.
In terms of Cheltenham odds, So Scottish’s odds could well shorten as the Magners Plate Handicap Chase race approaches. Depending on the movement in the betting market he could go off a bit shorter than 4/1, given his recent form since moving from the hurdles to the bigger fences for chasing.
Haut En Couleurs could be So Scottish’s biggest threat in this one, along with the Paul Nicholls-trained il Ridoto and Dan Skelton-trained Midnight River. If So Scottish brings his best form here on Day 3 like we know he can, he has every chance here in this one.
Mullins’ 6-year-old is certainly one of the biggest names in the race and an eye-catching horse here. He has every chance of claim his first Festival victory in the Magners Plate Handicap Chase on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
