A new music festival will be staged in Erris this August.
Taking place over the weekend of August 18th and 19th, the beautiful village of Geesala, located 10 minutes from Belmullet, will play host to the Far West festival.
Far West Fest looks set to bring some of Ireland’s best music acts to one of the most picturesque parts of the country.
Mayo’s Far West Fest contains an exciting line up. The festival is a non-for-profit community project that through sheer perseverance and vision, has been made possible.
Far West Fest will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the famous Geesala horse racing festival which takes place on nearby Doolough Beach on Sunday August 20, by hosting a top quality music festival to entertain the thousands who descend on Geesala for this weekend every year, as well as bringing in music fans from all over Mayo and beyond to this picture perfect location.
On Friday 18th August, a fantastic dance/pop line up gets the party started at Far West Fest with legendary DJ duo Basement Jaxx playing a closing set. With a string of Top 10 hits to play out including “Romeo”, “Red Alert”, “Rendez-Vu” and “Where’s Your Head At”, the London pair are masters of the festival headline set, having conquered Glastonbury, Creamfields and Sea Sessions in recent years. One of Ireland’s biggest breakthrough acts of 2022, LYRA, will be bringing her power pop to the Far West Fest stage.
After wowing 15,000 people at the recent NYE Festival in Dublin alongside Westlife and Gavin James, the Cork lass is all set to dominate 2023 with her highly anticipated debut album. Also on the bill is Ireland’s favourite DJ and festival veteran Jenny Greene, whose Electric Disco show on 2FM has been dominating the Irish airwaves for the last 12 years.
On Saturday 19th August, Far West Fest is delighted to present 3 of the biggest Irish acts of the last decade, headliner Gavin James, very special guests The Academic and our Eurovision pick for 2023 the fantastic Wild Youth.
Gavin’s songs have been streamed almost 2 billion times around the world, an incredible figure that has delivered sold out audiences wherever the Dublin native travels. Gavin’s 2022 album “The Sweetest Part” was his third #1 in a row cementing his status as an Arena selling act.
The Academic are ‘on fire’ at the moment with new album “Sitting Pretty” rocketing to the top of the charts on the back of some of the best live shows they have ever done across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Wild Youth will be appearing at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool in May, ahead of Far West Fest, and will carry the support of the whole country with their fantastic song “We Are One”.
